screen-shot-2015-11-22-at-9-18-28-pmOur community honored Rachel Terry with a little free library. Rachel was a wife, mother, daughter, teacher and friend who passed away August 6, 2015 from a rare form of cervical cancer.

According to a WDBJ7 news report, “Friends say Rachel Terry expressed her love for education throughout all aspects of her life.”

Rachel passed away after a courageous 18 month battle with cervical cancer – never losing her positive attitude and zest for life. She was a teacher at Southside Elementary School. Her husband, Charles, currently teaches at Kentuck Elementary, where the first Little Free Library in Pittsylvania County was designed and dedicated in her memory.

The Little Free Library was built in her honor to promote literacy and reading for years to come.  Students at Kentuck Elementary placed the books inside the library. Others are encouraged to share books with the library – reading a book and leaving a book.
